Nixon Foundation celebrates 50 years of U.S.-China relations

Last month, the Nixon Foundation hosted a wonderful celebration to commemorate the diplomatic trip that President Richard Nixon made to China on February 21, 1972. President Nixon's trip to China ended twenty-five years of isolation between the United States and the People's Republic of China (PRC) and resulted in establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1979 (Nixon Library). There were over 300 attendees at the event, including keynote speaker, Chinese Ambassador Qin Gang, former U.S. Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger and President Nixon’s grandson, Christopher Nixon Cox.

OCMD MUSICIANS PERFORM FOR EVENT GUESTS

As guests arrived at the Nixon Library they were treated to live music by students of Violin instructor Wendy Hua. Guests greeted one another, mingled while enjoying refreshments, and witnessed the wonderful display of historical images, all while our talented musicians played in the background. The evening began in Nixon Library’s Theater 37, with wonderfully entertaining musical and dance performances in celebration of Chinese culture. OCMD instructor and guzheng virtuoso, Bei Bei Monter was among the many talented performers of the evening.

After the show, guests were ushered into Nixon Library’s White House East Room for a special dinner reception. The dinner commenced with the OCMD’s Fanfare Trumpets welcoming guests with The Star-Spangled Banner and the Chinese National Anthem. The event was a lovely celebration to commemorate 50 years of diplomatic relations with China, and a passionate display of talent by OC Music & Dance musicians!
