FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are the age requirements for lessons?

The age requirements vary depending upon the program and teacher. For specifics on all our musical arts programs, go to our Home page and click on Programs. We also offer classes in our Wellness and Well-Being programs, from the Mommy and Me to our yoga and tai chi.

  • Do I sign for an individual lesson or for an entire session of lessons?

Our classes are offered in sessions of 8 lessons over 8 weeks. We don’t offer single classes.

  • Do you offer a free trial lesson?

Yes we do. The student/parent enrolls and pays for the entire session but may cancel within 48 hours of the initial lesson, in which case the tuition is refunded, less the enrollment fee of $35.

  • Do you offer private or group lessons?

Both, depending on the specific program and teacher.

  • How do I register for classes?

You can register for any of our classes or lessons online, via telephone, or in person at OC Music & Dance. Classes can be found under each programs menu. There will be a Sign Up! button next to classes that are available to accept enrollments. If you don’t see a Sign Up! button, the class has already started. Please contact OCMD at info@ocmusicdance.com for late enrollment options. For a quick video tutorial on how to enroll a student in a class, please click here.

  • What are the fees for lessons?

Tuition for classes is set by each individual instructor and varies based on class type, number of students, and level.

  • Are there any other expenses involved in the program?

There is an enrollment fee of $35. This covers the administrative expenses of enrollment and the student’s snazzy new OCMD shirt!

  • How and when do I pay for the class?

You pay the entire class upon enrollment. The easiest way to do this is online, using PayPal or your Visa/MasterCard. Or you may pay by check in person when you arrive for the first lesson. Enrollment is not complete without payment in advance.

  • Do you offer any scholarships for lessons?

Yes, we do! OC Music and Dance was founded on the principal that all children should have the ability to participate in performing arts programs no matter their ability to pay! Scholarships are available for students needing financial assistance. In order to qualify for a  full or partial scholarship, you must meet California’s eligibility requirement for free or reduced cost breakfast or lunch program. For further information, please click here.

  • Does the student need his or her own instruments?

In most cases, the student will need his or her own instrument. We provide pianos for all students in class. We have arrangements with music stores to provide instruments and we’ve negotiated the best rates possible. Our scholarship program ensures that no student is denied access or instruments because of financial need.

  • What if the student is unable to attend a lesson?

Cancelling lessons is discouraged but sometimes can’t be helped. The Instructor and student can rearrange the date and time, whether at the School or elsewhere. Tuition is not refunded for cancelled lessons.

  • Satisfaction Guarantee

We are committed to you and/or your child loving their experience at OC Music and Dance. If, within 48 hours of taking the first class or lesson, you are unsatisfied and wish to discontinue all future classes or lessons, OCMD will refund your tuition minus a $35 cancellation fee. Refunds will be issued by check if original payment was made with cash/check or returned to the card used for purchase. Cancellations made 48 hours or more after taking the first class or lesson, will be subject to a $35 cancellation fee and the tuition credited to your student account.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

OC Music and Dance has a 24 hour Cancellation Policy. All enrollments and lessons must be cancelled/changed at least 24 hours before its scheduled start time to avoid being charged. Any enrollment or lesson cancelled less than 24 hours in advance will be charged the full tuition amount. OCMD requires a credit card/debit card to be on file, however, you may also pay with cash or check.

  • Can I meet or speak with the teacher in advance?

Yes, depending on the scheduling and availability of the Instructor.

  • Is there a discount for more than one family member?

There is no tuition discount, but registration fees for every additional family member will be waived.

  • Do you offer recitals and school performances for the students?

Yes we do. We have a 150 seat theater that can be used for individual recitals, school performances and showcase performances. We have state of the art lighting, sound, and video. It isn’t Broadway, but to our children, it is heaven!

  • What else do you offer students?

Because we offer a comprehensive program for music, dance and voice, our students have the opportunity to collaborate with musicians studying different instruments, or who want to dance to the music our students provide, or access both dance and music with individual and choral singing. Students have access to utilize our recording studio and recording engineers to provide professional grade audio/visual tapes to schools and colleges, bands, dance troupes, studios and venues.

  • Can I rent the theater, or classrooms, boardrooms or conference rooms for programs of my own?

Yes, our facility may be rented, depending upon availability. Please go to our Home page, under Facility Rental for more information.

  • Is your café open to the public?

Yes it is, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Monkey Business Café has been in business for approximately 10 years. It is a social venture created by a nonprofit organization for, and operated by, emancipated foster youth. Besides an extraordinary benefit to these young men and women, they offer amazing food, using farm to table vegetables raised on their own farm and grown by their own talented members. The café mixes their expressos, fresh baked muffins and pastries, salads and sandwiches, with ambience, music provided by our Open Microphone program, and service with warmth and a smile.

  • Can I donate to OCMD?

We are a public charity, qualified under Section 501(c)(3). Your contributions are more than tax deductible. They are deeply appreciated by our teachers and students. Go to our Home page and click under “Want to Help”.

  • How can I volunteer at OCMD?

We want your help. Our volunteers are all members of the Society of the Muses. A “muse”, in ancient Greek mythology, was a goddess who inspired artists, musicians and philosophers. If you want to inspire our children, come join us! Go to the Home page and click on “Want to Help”.
